Struggling to get a GP appointment?
The Pharmacy First service allows our pharmacists to diagnose and treat currently 7 common conditions. We will be able to advise on the condition and provide self-care advice. Where clinically necessary, our pharmacists can supply prescription only medicine (under a patient group direction) to treat your condition.
Below are the 7 common conditions we can now treat without an appointment:
Sore Throat
For patients aged 5 years and over
Symptoms of a bacterial throat infection include:
- Fever
- White spots on the back of the throat
- Inflammed tonsils
- Quick onset
UTIs
For women aged 16 to 64 years
Symptoms of an uncomplicated urinary tract infection include:
- Burning pain when passing urine
- Needing to pass urine in the night
- Cloudy urine
Infected Insect Bites
For patients aged 1 year and over
Symptoms of an infected insect bite include:
- Redness of surrounding skin
- Swelling around the bite
- Painful or tender to touch
- Skin surrounding bite is warm to the touch
Ear Infections
For patients aged 1 to 17 years
Symptoms of a middle ear infection (Otitis Media) in children include:
- Earache
- Tugging and pulling the ear
- Fever
- Restlessness
Our pharmacist will need to check your child's ear with an otoscope as part of the examination.
This condition is not treatable from our online branch, Stag Direct but can still be accessed from our other England branches.
Impetigo
For patients aged 1 year and over
Symtoms of Impetigo skin infection include:
- Fluid filled blisters with red skin underneath, they burst very easily
- The fluid dries to form a golden-yellow or yellow-brown crust
- Can occur anywhere on the body but commonly found on around mouth and nose, on limbs and flexures
- Can be mildly itchy
Shingles
For patients aged 18 years and over
Symptoms of shingles include:
- abnormal skin sensation and burning, stabbing, throbbing, itching or tingling pain
- red spots develop into small fluid filled blisters
- Rash normally covers a distinct patch of skin and normally appears on only one side of the body (right or left) and doesn't cross over to the other side
Sinusitis
For patients aged 12 years and over
Symptoms of sinusitis include:
- Nasal blockage or discharge
- Facial pain or pressure especially behind the nose and eyes
- Reduction in sense of smell
- Normally lasts for more than 10 days
